The local media covered it up by not mentioning the status of the murderers.  The national media won't cover it at all since it goes against their leader in the WH and the planned destruction of the dominant western culture in the USA.

Notice that he had them work for him and they learned of his lifestyle as a single elderly person living alone in a rural area.  Not that he should have had to consider his profile or security, but in this day and age it is worth taking extra precautions.  Even locking a door might have helped him.  An alarm system would have helped as well in addition to a dog that would have alerted him to the intrusion.  A firearm would have been another item needed when living alone.

At some age I suggest group living if you are alone simply because it does help to have more sets of eyes covering your back and it acts to dissuade this very situation where they felt safe attacking an old man living alone in a remote location.
