The common thread to all of the street violence has been antifa.  They appear to represent the communist model of street action to gain power and intimidate.

Notice how the vitriol from the Gov and other left wing leaders is directed toward the defenders rather than the violent protestors who started the melee.  This follows the European pattern of using PC language and reverse logic to bend common sense and justify silencing alternate views other than leftist views.
