Gun Buybacks Are for Fools

The history of gun buybacks is one where mostly uninformed people in possession of weapons they themselves didn't purchase end up giving away good guns for little money.  More importantly they are giving away their sole means of self defense.

The actual results of these buybacks are sadly more crime against innocent civilians unable to protect themselves.  Britain and Australia have seen large increases in violent crime as a result of their gun bans and eventual collection of them for destruction in the smelter, though I bet many never made it there and instead ended up in police collections.

Gun buybacks in the USA are laughable.  They get very few so their effect is nil other than to make idiot liberal mayors feel good.  Let us all hope that nothing like the British and Australian model ever comes to pass in America.  We know that the left would like to forcibly take them from all owners since they believe that only the police, military, and their personal bodyguards should have them.

For us it is necessary to remain vigilant against these forces of totalitarianism as they attempt to consolidate power and remove the one remaining means of halting their every expanding demand on our freedoms and property.

National Gun Registration

Full national gun registration is on the agenda for 2013 if our politicians have their way.  They want your guns and allowing the state to have a monopoly on weapon ownership and use is their goal.  Americans are voting against this with their wallets.

Here is a link to the outline for a law proposed by Senator Feinstein and it contains all of the worrisome things that any freedom loving gun owning American should fear.  It appears to include semi-auto handguns based on the descriptions.  Get ready for your fingerprinting and probably a very high yearly fee per weapon.

One step that might have made a ban and registration more difficult is the huge number of new gun buyers since the threat of a ban has been discussed.

Get Your Guns, Mags, and Ammo Now

The run is on for AR-15 and M4 variants, AK variants, weapon magazines, and ammunition.

I've been in half a dozen gun shops in the past few weeks after the election and right after the Connecticut tragedy.  There is a mad scramble on to buy up what is perceived to be on the coming banned list.  This really is Deja Vu all over again, just like Yogi said.

Here is a short and simple video for 5 handguns you should own.

Here is a short video for 5 assault weapons you might want to buy before a gun ban.

Back in 1993 and 1994 the same thing happened before the Assault Weapon Ban went into effect.  It was a madhouse at gun shows where people were willing to pay almost anything for an AK drum.   30 round AR15 or AK mags began selling for $1 per round of capacity which was six times what I was used to paying.   HK91/G3 magazines were going for $40 each which was double the $20 they went for before the rush.  Glock magazines were going for $50 on up.  I paid $55 for a few and watched people shelling out $30 for AK mags where just two years before I found stacks of East German mags going for $5 each.  I wish I had bought the whole pile of them instead of just a few.

Needless to say, there was a rush on weapons as well.  For those of us fortunate enough to have purchased all we needed before the rush it was fun to watch.  Some even cashed out and made a fast profit.  It seemed permanent then and especially when the ban came into effect.  The new normal was pre-ban guns like AR15 variants and AK variants going for well over $1k.  HK91 .308 rifles were going for almost $2K.  Hell, now they're almost $3K.

I've checked the online sites where you could normally buy either a PTR91 or an FAL in .308.  Both of these are in short supply.  Almost all AK models are unavailable for the moment or maybe for good depending on how quickly the executive order is signed to ban imported parts, magazines, and ammunition.  If a full blown ban goes into effect then the availability shortage will run prices straight up to the sky.    Magazines for Glock and other popular models have all but dried up online and I'm sure the price at gun shows will be crazy.  AK mags are gone from most online stores as well.   Ammo is tight too.

So here is what I recommend.  If you have a handgun and only have a few magazines at least get yourself on the email notification list when magazines are back in stock.  Buy any ammo you can find that will work in your guns.  And lastly, and I hate to say it, but since you waited to buy either an AR or AK, you'll have to bite the bullet and pay what they are going for in this current market.

If you want some quick recommendations I'd suggest just getting an SKS and lots of ammo if you are tight on money.   Hopefully you have a handgun already so you just need to locate extra magazines.  I'd prefer a dozen mags or more per weapon but if you must limit yourself get at least four.

Whatever you do, don't wait much longer or you'll regret it.

Cops talk about how they will respond to an order for gun confiscation.

The Run to Hard Assets and Middle Class Collapse

For those of your paying attention the dollar is becoming toilet paper.   Our once beautiful dollar is headed to the ash heap of history.   It makes sense to get hard assets instead of fiat money, and here in the USA the biggest run into investments is guns, gold, ammo, and land.  So this can't end well.

The Move Against Gun Ownership

Disarming citizens means to end their right to self defense.

Alex Jones has it right when it comes to the current move against guns after the Connecticut tragedy.  It really does appear orchestrated and ready to go while they were just waiting for an event to happen that would give them the pretext for doing what they want to to, which is to ban guns.

Two Problems Related to Personal Disarmament
On the face of it it might make some reasonable argument to stop violence by removing guns from society.  There are two big problems here.  One is that it can't be done simply on the basis of our long history of gun ownership and incredible amount of them already in circulation.  The black market wouldn't submit to a ban, but instead would simply raise the cost.

The other insoluble problem relates to government.

The War Dead in WW2  are testimony to a disarmed populace.

In countries where the populace cannot be armed there is often governmental abuse of citizens.  To say you save lives by removing gun ownership seems to ignore the mass exterminations done to citizens of countries like Germany that were seemingly civilized and advanced, but once unable to do anything but submit to tyranny and dictatorial power.  As a result of WW2 the Germans lost close to 10% of their population and the Soviets lost 13%.  Many other countries suffered as well.  It could be said that had the German population been privately armed the dictatorship of Adolf Hitler might not have been able to reach beyond Germany.  50 million dead as a result makes a strong case for self reliant and an armed citizenry such as those in Switzerland.  They suffered approximately 100 dead from the war, meaning 0%.  Guns saved Switzerland.

Why Own Guns

I've put together a compilation of articles and essays regarding why to own a gun.  Most of these include sound reasons for gun ownership and will possibly give you the ammunition needed to win an argument on the benefits of gun ownership.  More importantly, this may give you the reasons you might need to arm yourself.

Glock 19 Gen4 - Glock Knuckle Injury

Update 1/16/2013  (My Fix for Glock Knuckle came rather easily.  The back strap that came with the Gen 4 was the smallest one and that set my knuckle up for punishment when fired.  I added the medium grip strap over the small one and it works fine now.  I suggest you try that before you take a Dremel tool or sandpaper to your frame and void your warranty.)

I like Glocks and have used them since they became available.  I recently picked up the Gen4 Model 19 in the hopes of getting the newest and best improvements on what has become an outstanding self defense system.  After 50 rounds I noticed a pain on my right middle finger at the second knuckle where the trigger guard contacts this part of the hand.  I had the beginning of a blister and it actually became painful to continue firing.  This was something totally new for me after using every generation of Glock 9mm pistols to come out since the beginning.  I compared it with the a Gen-3 and noticed that the edges on the Gen-4 are sharper around the trigger guard.  I now have to come up with a way to cope with this unexpected and ridiculous new problem that came with this new gun.  As it stands now, I'd recommend to anyone thinking of a Glock Model 19 to stick with Gen-3 simply based on this issue alone.

A number of other users on pistol-forums report this same problem to the point it is called Glock Knuckle.  Some have used sand paper to solve the problem.  I notice one comment at the end of this thread that matches my observation that the edges of the trigger guard need to be rounded.  I'm likely to try this approach myself to fix the problem or attempt to fix it.

Here is a thread on thehighroad that suggests changing to back strap size to move your knuckle away from the offending trigger guard.  I'll probably try that first and then proceed to go the sandpaper route.  I'm hesitant to go with sandpaper in the event it has an effect on the warranty as a modification.

Other than this problem I found the weapon fired the same as the others and with the distraction of the sharp edge trigger guard I was unable to clearly see a change in the trigger reset distance or pull.

I found a good review of the Gen-4 here at a pistol training site.

If you are looking for grip modifications here is a page describing the efforts another Glock user has performed.

Nine is Fine

There are many experts that will tell you that the 9mm is somehow not up to the task of self defense.  I suggest you do your own testing along with reading the specifications for stopping power online and checking the gelatin penetration videos.

A friend of mine tested his .22 Ruger LCR pistol by firing it into a phone book.  It went 600 pages into it so this convinced him that a hole at least that deep in a human body would likely dissuade many attackers unless they are amped up on drugs.

He took his Makarov and tried the same test.  It went through the book completely and traveled onward.  This simple test gave him a high level of confidence in his weapon of choice.

Government Ammo Purchases for Domestic Tranquility

This ongoing buildup of ammo purchases well beyond the need for training leads many of us to believe that DHS and other agencies within the USA are planning for martial law.

DHS Orders 200 Million more rounds of ammunition. Since 176, 000 rounds of it are .308 ammo it leads to the question as to what DHS plans to do with it.

This is also why ammo prices in general are continuing to increase.

Avoiding Negligent Discharges

Before we even start with gun safety I think the first thing we should get out of the way is to show everyone why you should never give a gun to a monkey.
http://youtu.be/GhxqIITtTtU
What you learn from this video is that they are unpredictable and remember that also goes for lots of everyday people out there that you might run into on the firing line.

I think of gun safety often when I hear of firearm tragedies. Here is one I just read from a blogger under the title CarteachO.

http://carteach0.blogspot.com/2010/02/glens-story-cautionary-tale-for.html

Over the years I remember a couple of times when clearing weapons that I missed a proper part of the sequence and could have really had a bad experience. Mostly this means the risk of putting a hole through a floor since I generally point it there when clearing one. Still, this should give you pause.

Here are some stories on the subject.

Drug Resistant TB

Step into the wrong elevator or get on the wrong airplane and you might pick up a deadly and nearly incurable version of TB. The world is floating in nasty infectious diseases and TB of the antibiotic resistant type will bring us back to the days before antibiotics where catching such a disease is a death sentence. With open borders and no public health agency that really manages such risks we are all just one elevator ride away from wretched death. This alone is why I prefer to travel in cars and stay out of large groups and confined spaces with people.

Here is an story about the alarming rise of drug resistant TB.

West Nile Virus on the Move

A new record of deaths and infections for West Nile Virus has hit the USA. The movement of people without health checks or quarantine has imported man new and some old diseases into the country. Here is another one to worry about.

New Tick Virus from the Heartland

Here is a new virus that may take the name Heartland Virus since many viruses are named after locations where they are first found. It has some nasty symptoms and as usual is transmitted easily by tick bites. Add this to the growing list of tick infections that doesn't seem to be important to the government in terms of finding cures or vaccines. Lyme is still the big daddy on the tick disease front due to its widespread distribution and long lasting effects on the neurological system.

Civil War 201?

Well, the U.S. Military is writing papers on the subject of civil war in 2016 so it makes you wonder when the DHS purchases 400 million rounds of .40 JHP. The signs are becoming evident that they are readying for some type of insurrection of social unrest. The worst part of it is that they might foment it in order to justify a harsh response.

Concealed Carry Issues

Getting the right holster is the answer for concealed carry or even open carry. I've found the old tried and true leather holsters are still the best. Anyone that has owned and carried handguns for a long period of time has a collection.

1. Buy one fitted for the gun you intend to carry.

2. Stay away from nylon

3. No fancy mechanisms. I had trouble with one that requires tilting the weapon a certain way to extract it. Something like that is lousy under pressure. Release buttons jam too.

4. Pay top dollar and get the best you can afford and only buy once. If you buy cheap ones you'll have to replace them anyway and end up spending the same.

This one is one of the best articles I've read on holsters.

EMP Death Totals

In an article posted at World Net Daily there is a predication that 80-90% of Americans would eventually die as a result of the systemic collapse from an EMP event. Of course it's hard to accurately predict outcomes like this in the wake of the Y2K non-event, but if you look at our dependency on electronic devices that might be vulnerable to EMP energy then you would have to say that it makes sense to take some precautions. The easiest one is to drop a few little AM/FM radios into ammo cans or some other shielded box. You might want to further insulate that with mylar bags and bubble wrap before you put them in a metal container. If you want something other than simple communications then you might add a CB radio. They're cheap. You can find all this on Amazon.com. I see Sony portable radios for $10 and CB radios for $30. Beyond that, you might think about how you have all of your wealth stored. If it is just numbers in bank accounts then yes, you could lose it all, but who knows. So it makes sense to have currency on hand including coins, precious metals, and of course the other white metal known as lead in the form of ammunition. Rimfire .22 is a safe bet since you can always plink with it and it is cheap compared to centerfire handgun or rifle ammunition.

Food is still your number one priority when it comes to EMP concerns since the availability of food may disappear the moment all unshielded electronic devices are destroyed by the pulse. Also plan to have some non-electrical means of heating your food.

Lastly, get your tinfoil hat on to protect yourself from a brain erasure in a strong EMP attack. Just kidding, as far as I know we have no risk for that. Otherwise we couldn't get into an MRI.

Best Pocket Guns

I have my own preference for pocket carry and recently have moved to a Sig Sauer P238 in .380 as my favorite to shoot and most accurate with minimal recoil, light weight, and small size. My second in line is the Kahr CW9 since it has the hotter 9mm round. It is a bit heaver and larger but the extra punch of the 9mm really makes a difference for confidence in self defense situations. I also have a Smith and Wesson Model 642 .38 special revolver that I like for a jacket pocket in the winter where its size and weight seem less concerning and it makes for a great great vehicle concealment gun for reliable and fast access if needed. (Of course, this is only for places where it is legal to have one on you or in your vehicle in close proximity.)

Here is a video that somewhat parallels my suggestions.

Checkpoints in America

Here we have a guy with some courage to tell the authorities that he isn't interested in being their patsy at a checkpoint.

I'd like to go free on my way.

Why Mr. Anderson.
This video goes well with the one you just watched and it probably represents our future.

How about the 100 mile exclusion zone on U.S. borders where the constitution no longer applies. This could mean daily searches.

Meanwhile, as they tighten the screws on U.S. citizens the Feds are cutting enforcement on the borders. Here is a story about the closing of 4 border patrol stations.

How about some obedience training for U.S. travelers courtesy of the TSA as they told to freeze on command

These are ominous signs that much is going wrong here in the U.S.A. They open the borders and tighten the screws on us to protect us from the threats they allow into the country.

Book Reviews - Screwed, The Survivors Club

Here are a few books worth getting from the library.

Screwed by Dick Morris & Eileen McGann is a great rundown of the raping of the USA by China, Saudi Arabia and numerous others.

The Survivors Club by Ben Sherwood is an excellent treatment of research on survival. It reads well too since he includes stories of survival rather than just clinical info.

Concealed Carry Rules

I found this link on rules of concealed carry and thought you might find it useful.

http://lewrockwell.com/spl4/10-commandments-of-concealed-carry.html

I'd like to add my own rule. The mouse gun you have in your pocket is better than the bear gun you have in your gun safe when it comes to utility in time of immediate need.

Though caliber is important it is better to have anything than nothing so if a .22 revolver is all you feel comfortable shooting then until that time comes when you can move up in caliber, just carry the .22. It is better than nothing and often will do the trick. Just get very good with that little gun since accuracy/placement then becomes more important than ever.

This also comes into play when you have to consider carrying a weapon at all times and the larger framed guns do wear you down. Having a 9 or ten ounce gun in your pocket that disappears until needed is a strong argument for light and little is better than nothing. S&W Model 317 Airlite Video.
Here is a complete writeup of the Airlite Model 317.

My upper end of weight for full time carry is 15 ounces. Here is a list of 10 lightweight carry guns and many are under ten ounces.

I'd like to add to this list the Sig P238 as one of my favorites.

Avoid Confrontations - Your Life Depends On It

Here is a story about a woman who probably thought she would just point out bad driving behavior to a car full of men and instead she ended up dead from a gunshot.  http://blog.al.com/live/2012/07/woman_killed_after_confronting.html#comments

The point of this is that no matter where you are nowadays you might reconsider confronting anyone on any type of behavior.  It may cost you your life.  For instance, many years ago in a movie theater I had a couple behind me chattering and I asked them to stop.  I know the guy was ready to start something but his girlfriend stopped him.  I might have gotten a knife in the neck or a bullet and nowadays that is almost likely.  At a minimum I'd get a beating for my inconsiderate behavior in actually expecting people not to have a running conversation during the movie.

Avoid confrontations.  If you have  a situation where it must be stopped then call the police and let them confront the troublemakers.  That is what the police are paid to do.

Save yourself some jail time or worse, a trip to the morgue.

Choosing A Pistol

Here is a great site I found on choosing a pistol.
http://www.wikihow.com/Choose-the-Right-Pistol-%28Handgun%29

If you want my quick and simple weapon recommendation for a handgun of choice I'd go with a Glock 19 for 9mm or a Glock 23 if you want to have a .40 S&W.

These two weapons are built on the same platform and can function as weapons for concealed carry or as a primary service weapon that you might have on your nightstand.  So if you intend to go with only one weapon I'd choose one of these two.

9mm will give you more practice time if your funds are scarce while the .40 will offer more stopping power depending on the round used.

One other main benefit of the Glock is the availability of the Advantage Arms .22 adapter that will give you trigger time at 1/3 the cost per round.  I've found that I need to use CCI mini-mags in this adapter to get reliable function but that still leaves you paying approx. 7 cents per round versus 21 cents per round.

Lebensraum for China

Empty cities in Afrika built by China give me a feeling that we're watching a possible mass migration of Chinese into this region as HIV/AIDS continues to destroy the population.  The good thing about this is that the population pressure in China might get reduced and thus cut our risk of war.  The bad thing or one of many is that they are grabbing territory and minerals.

Cyber Attacks on the Electrical Grid

The risk continues despite years of warnings that we will likely face an electrical grid collapse due to cyberwar attacks.  Meanwhile, the fools in government keep talking smart grid which in translation means stupid grid or vulnerable grid.  The more we go away from direct control over the grid to remote control through SCADA  (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) systems.     Here is the Wiki on this to get a full understanding.

This warning comes through the North American Energy Standards Board that warns of major security risk to the grid due to insecure digital signatures.  It's only a matter of time according to this group.

Picture yourself using candles and oil lamps for light while cooking food in your microwave and electric stove won't happen.  Gas stoves often have electrical controls so you might be out of business there too.

Forget hot showers or even water if the utility company can't keep the pressure up or you have a well without a backup power source.

No TV or Internet too so you'll be back to reading novels by candlelight.

The government people in charge of this have no clue how vulnerable we are but instead focus on their benefits packages and herding votes.  The panacea of energy savings gained by the so called smart grid may be the Trojan Horse that takes our society down unless these fools put in serious effort to make it fully secure with redundant backup by old technology.  Of course they got rid of the old technology as they upgraded so we end up in a situation where few people are left that know how the old ways worked and the new systems are dependent on computer control and high technology parts made by our potential enemies such as China.  This is stupidity and it is always punished.

My advice to you is to make yourself less vulnerable to the grid collapse by setting up an alternate system in your home for lighting, heat, and refrigeration.  If you live in the city this is going to be really hard to do, but even a suburban home can set up redundant systems for heat and light with a solar panel, battery, 12 V lights, and a wood stove.

Best of Luck with the new smart grid from our Geniuses in Washington.

P.S.  EMP adds to the risk of a grid collapse.

Check out this site.  America may never recover from an EMP attack.

E. Coli Outbreaks

The danger for all of us is contracting an illness that might kill you or severely injure you simply by having a meal at the wrong location or buying tainted food.  Picture yourself losing 50 pounds in 3 months as you lose your appetite and spend most of your day with intestinal discomfort.  For your long term health I'd suggest limiting your meals out to places that you can watch the food begin prepared.  I currently see Subway as my only safe place to eat when traveling.

Aside from that I stick with pasta without meat or pizza without meat.  There are too many ways to lose your life and doing it over a bad meal just isn't worth it.  You can save a lot of money by staying home and making your own food.  In addition by making your effort at self preparation you'll be more independent if the merry-go-round stops.

Here is another reminder why watching what you eat and where you go to eat is a major part of self preservation.

Safe Revolver Use

For the beginning shooter this is must video if you intend to own a revolver or shoot one someday.  Revolvers function differently than an auto-loading pistol and what you don't know can injure you badly.

Check out this video on the risk of escaping gasses from the side of a revolver to convince you not to hold one the way a auto-loader is held.

Darkness Descends over the Internet Via the U.N.

If you want to have the all seeing eye monitoring your every activity and controlling all of the content that you will see just let then gain control over the Internet.  Right now the U.S. Congress is considering that and somehow it seems plausible that it will happen.  Let us hope not for the sake of our children and their children.  First off, the U.S. built the Internet from beginning to end so why should we pass it over to some foreign entity.  If you asked a dimwit like Carter he might think it's a good idea, sorta like giving up the Panama Canal.  Only a world improving fool would have seen the benefit of that.  So check this out and see what the one world crowd has in mind.  I say no to this.

Economic Collapse Update

Here is a great prediction about our coming financial turmoil with specifics.

Invest in metals, whether gold, silver, or lead.  Keep cash on hand, and your ears to the ground waiting for the rumble of a financial earthquake.  Hard assets, food, water, and weapons will get you through.

Cyber Attacks From China Increase our Risk

http://campaign2012.washingtonexaminer.com/blogs/beltway-confidential/china-launching-cyber-attacks-against-defense-dept/551176

This could get out of hand and of course we have minimal defenses against it and are totally dependent on the grid and computer networks so a take-down would take us down.

People are Stashing their Cash at Home

Here is an article on those people now taking their money out of the bank and stashing it in a safe at home.  I know a number of people doing this to the point of taking much of their cash assets and hiding them at home.  Times have changed.

Solar Events Pose a Serious Risk to Our Way of LIfe

http://www.latimes.com/news/science/la-sci-solar-storms-20120505,0,6214500.story

For those of you that laugh at those who prepare for EMP attacks or solar storms that might destroy data or electrical equipment, here is a great article on the subject.  At a minimum I would try to put some protection in place for my electronic data by placing it in a Faraday cage.  Some have mentioned that a microwave oven could be useful as a storage location.  If you do that, make sure you unplug it.  I'm still now\t sure that would prevent a large electromagnetic pulse from somehow sending enough energy through to make the microwave dump some energy inside the box but it would be worth a try.  A better approach might be to use some type of grounded metal container.

Here are some links for ways to build one.

This also proves that those who plan to sit out a grid collapse with oil lamps, firewood, propane, and some solar lighting might be ahead of the rest in terms of handling a solar storm.  We really don't know for sure how severely such an event could change our daily lives.

Beheadings Head to the USA

This is the benefit of open borders with a society that is in the grip of a real war on terror right on their lawns and front steps. I feel sad for the Mexicans but we should protect ourselves. Of course we're not going to.
