This could be an insane panic or the disease might have legs and turn out to be as bad as feared. We won't know for sure for months or even a year. Meanwhile, your job is to make sure that you protect yourself if your age and health suggest you are at high risk. Set aside food and be ready for a stay away from others in self-isolation or family quarantine. Those with work will have the biggest challenge.

Amidst the manic concern about climate change is a fact that can't be ignored. When solar activity drops so do the temperatures. If we are moving into a cooling period then the worriers about warming should drop that idea and be happy if we even nudged things up 1 degree planet wide for it might save millions of lives. Food shortages could be headed our way along with so many other concerns that relate to energy requirements and ability to live. We'll see if it hits us with this form of climate change that has nothing to do with anything man made but rather sun made. If it does happen in this fashion you can bet that people living in the South will be getting a lot more company down there to join them. As for the Warmists among us, hold onto your Sun Hats because things may get frosty. Me, I'm getting out the wool. You can't hide from the cold.
Proviso: I'm happy to call myself an environmentalist but climate change is contained within a whole different sphere of thought unless you count deforestation and desertification. Let's not destroy the ecosystem, sure I can agree with that. If you want to get a good start on it how about curbing population growth and don't complaint to advanced countries on that but rather consider what migration and propagation of huge numbers of people in the less advanced countries will do to the load on the environment.

Countries like Germany and France have repatriated their Gold from the USA vaults so that should tell you something. The power brokers know what is coming and are protecting themselves and will again leave the rest of us holding the bag so to speak, and in this case the bag will probably be filled with manure.
What to do: Get Hard Assets, add physical survival preparations like water, food, and shelter that you can't be evicted from due to non payment of rent or mortgage even if it means a travel trailer on a piece of junk land. Own your vehicle no matter how old rather than make payments that you can no longer make. Develop lots of friends in your community to network with in the event of such a disaster as a currency default. The the thing to be sure of is to not be surprised if and when it happens.

This article does contain many truths. One that is apparent is that we have created most of our own problems here in the USA.
Giving away our technology and manufacturing to foreign sources was crazy and yet we continue it.
Spending well past what even a drunken sailor might consider reasonable is suicidal for an economy yet it continues.
Open borders weren't mentioned but the idea that you can sustain a culture where you replace the existing population with those from other failed cultures is a proven mistake yet there is no end in sight but rather cheerleaders for making it worse.
As for war, we'll have another one soon enough and the question is where it will just put us in our place or destroy us and the rest of the civilized world with it. That takes a crystal ball to see but you can't know the result other than all Empires fall so our turn is coming.
Pax Americana will end and the question is when and how harshly it happens.

The sellout is complete. We have little to gain from this madness as our money is tossed around to countries for their protection while we are left open to invasion. Two years was wasted on other items while a Republican Congress sat on its hands when it came to fixing health care and immigration. Now all is lost or appears so. Even if we get a wall and some element of border security we are still crumbling from within as spending has gone stratospheric. Soon the Interest expense will consume a good portion of the budget and that is when we become Venezuela times 50.

This is ongoing and isn't just limited to the USA. Expect many Western countries to face this gloomy future.
One good part of it is the use of funds and resources earned by citizens to support so many others that just arrive into the country legally and illegally and get benefits greater than many citizens can expect. It is the world inverted.
Solution: It won't likely be solved for the country by the politicians or government so you should set your plans for survival in old age with some comfort by being realistic. Consider how much you really need and the problem with saving too much at the expense of your current life is that often the government will means test you and deny your earned benefits thereby leaving you in the same position as someone that never saved. They get free healthcare and you pay, they get subsidized housing and you pay full rate, they get food stamps while you shell out cash every day for your meals, and on and on it goes until at the end the government will take all that you have.
The best answer seems to be to own your own home with no debt and consider what the taxes on it will be when you decide the size and cost.
Set aside hard assets in addition to your home such as silver, gold, and other precious items.
Have some protected savings in insurance products and retirement accounts that offer liability protection and are tax efficient.
Have cash.
Have paid off vehicles.
Have some way of guaranteeing your health coverage by either being a veteran, a government worker, or have little enough in the way of income that you qualify for full government protection in the form of Medicaid until you are eligible for Medicare.
Have family and friends that comprise a support group.

It comes down to lies, greed, and a broken social contract. While our politicians sit idly back and do nothing but collect payments from the thieves at the top many Americans are struggling and must work until their last days. Meanwhile, refugees are given free housing, free medical, free food, and cash. Oh, add free education for their kids too or for their college while Americans have to pay for their own by going into debt.
American Veterans are treated worse than illegals by far since they rarely can qualify for the list of free goodies that come with just showing up.
If you want to safe and not to mention comfortable retirement I suggest you plan for taking care of yourself which includes savings, investing, paying off your home, and getting rid of all debt before you retire. Find a way to insure that you'll have most of your medical costs covered but don't rely on promises from corporate plans since they will often gut the plans to fill their own pockets.
As they say when the enemy has overrun your position.

Expect to see many more living in their vehicles as they have to decide between rent and food. Losing the vehicle is always the last option.

Personal Survival: Reasons to Stay Home

This is repeated too often and on that basis some advice is in order. Just because you believe that you are a good person, that you have a cause of good on your side, and you are used to being treated humanely don't expect that if you go to an unknown culture you will find the same outcomes. Even here in the USA you can run out of luck depending on the circumstance, but at least you have an idea of the ground rules.
Missionaries are fodder in the eyes of most foreign criminals and dictatorial governments. I won't even go through the list of recent ones but just consider how much good you can do right in your home country before you decide to do good in some S___hole where life is cheap and your life means nothing to others. Why put yourself through it when there are many places right at home or in your home country that can use the help. In this case the man in jail went to meet a wife so I'll give him some understanding but in general when you go to a place where the rule of law is out the window you can expect to go out the window as well, literally.
As for anyone in the US government that can help this guy in the above article. Instead of worrying about illegals and refugees how about lifting a finger for an American for once and get this guy out of there.
