This is a portent of what is coming to the USA.  The reasons will be the same.  The government wants information, businesses want to reduce costs and satisfy customers,  and the individual wants convenience.  Privacy will take a back seat.  The only clear hope to maintain privacy is cryptocurrency.

At least you know one thing.  They apparently can't print more of it like all other fiat currencies.

Puerto Rico facing massive liquidity crisis
This is a portent of a real financial collapse and how it might look.  Lucky for Puerto Rico residents they can take a flight to the USA and escape the mess legally if they have enough assets set aside to do so.  They are US citizens.

Alone and Old
They didn't include broke in this article but that is the worst of the three and combined you're talking a sad ending.  A financial collapse will be especially hard on the elderly.  Do what you can to plan around this risk by having family nearby if possible, planning to have some assets in place other than just a social security check, and of course there is very little you can do about getting old other than trying to remain active and socially engaged.
