This is advice for protection against hackers.   Just remember that it doesn't mean you won't be inviting tech giants into your personal information and browsing habits.   It sort of comes with the territory.  I think the chromebooks are superb for travel.  I also have used them whenever I want to access public wifi and don't want to risk a Macbook or Windows machine.

For maximum protection you can browse as a guest on public wifi and essentially not share any account information like logging in might do.
