If you are preparing for survival it might make sense to consider whom or what is living in your home. Any of the breeds like this have the potential to do what they do best and that is to subdue and by doing so kill any human by the swift bite on a neck.
Thoughts: Stick with gentle breeds with good hearing that alert you to threats. Leave the self defense aspect of intruder invasions to yourself by having firearms. Of course in London where this happened you probably can go to jail for picking up a kitchen knife when facing a home invasion. I'm sure the owner never thought this could happen to him.

I have never tried this exact approach. Mostly what I suggest is to put on boots or shoes you are willing to spray with Deet or treat with tick killer meant to treat clothing.

White clothes show up ticks quickly.
Tuck Clothes
Tuck your pants into your white socks and spray deet on the socks and the overlap. This may not prevent a tick from crawling on you but it confuses their scent glands.

If not, eventually China will have the edge in finances and manpower to get the job done. Look, it's likely coming. China thinks it should be the preeminent world Superpower and they recognize that dropping a nuke on Japan gave the USA that title. There is one problem though. India is nearby with nukes. Pakistan is nearby with nukes. Soon Iran will be nearby with nukes. Israel is nearby with nukes. South Africa has nukes, or did. Russia is nearby with nukes. The USA has nukes nearby everywhere with subs. I'm sure I'm leaving a few out. The bottom line is that someone just has to get jumpy and off things go.

He makes a good argument that I tend to agree with. I do have a proviso to add. As a nightstand gun a revolver is still superb for ready action. For a CCW a revolver can also serve well though I don't want a .357 snubby to lose my remaining hearing and to get night blindness on the first shot.
Have a revolver as another one of your assortment if you have an assortment or collection. Why is that? You don't need extra magazines for it, none actually. Also, you have just improved your flexibility on ammo capability. Finally, it can always be sold or traded if that time ever came and it will retain value up until that time especially if you buy it used.

We're not worried here about saving money so much as saving our lives. How long will packaged food last. If it is perishable it should first pass the smell test no matter what the date says. Other rules for safety always need to be observed like maintaining the proper temperatures for meats, dairy, and seafood. If you don't you could be asking for a bad dose of food poisoning.
Food canned or vacuum sealed in foil/plastic still offer some of the best and low cost ways to build a food insurance plan. As for expiration dates you now know that the dates all along were suggestions.
