The argument against .357 for a SHTF gun
He makes a good argument that I tend to agree with. I do have a proviso to add. As a nightstand gun a revolver is still superb for ready action. For a CCW a revolver can also serve well though I don't want a .357 snubby to lose my remaining hearing and to get night blindness on the first shot.
Have a revolver as another one of your assortment if you have an assortment or collection. Why is that? You don't need extra magazines for it, none actually. Also, you have just improved your flexibility on ammo capability. Finally, it can always be sold or traded if that time ever came and it will retain value up until that time especially if you buy it used.

Survival Food Storage Update: New Rules on Expiration Dates

We're not worried here about saving money so much as saving our lives. How long will packaged food last. If it is perishable it should first pass the smell test no matter what the date says. Other rules for safety always need to be observed like maintaining the proper temperatures for meats, dairy, and seafood. If you don't you could be asking for a bad dose of food poisoning.
Food canned or vacuum sealed in foil/plastic still offer some of the best and low cost ways to build a food insurance plan. As for expiration dates you now know that the dates all along were suggestions.

Part of the problem is the speech selling that masquerades as a public service but is really a for profit operation that many presidents use to add to their pot of gold. Selling books that no one really wants to read is another one. They get fat payoffs by book publishers who will sell a dozen books to every library in the country while Unions and other interest groups will buy copies for their members as a way of buying future help.
We are well past the old Republic model. We now have grifters running our country. This includes all levels of political power up to and including the highest office in the land.
Let us hope our current President who already had his wealth before entering office maintains his focus on serving the country rather than serving himself as the previous president has done.
