All the other reporting seems to leave out a central question.  Why are school officials unable to see that protecting the kids means actually defending the premises with something more than human shields and gun free zones.  This appears no different than the era of aircraft with accessible cockpits and no passenger and luggage screening.  It seems that nothing can convince the academic community that radical steps are necessary before considering gun control.

FBI had warning - too busy on political investigations 
Maybe Sessions should retire. This is so similar to warnings by flight training schools about guys that didn't care about learning to land prior to 9/11.  These guys aren't earning their pay.

Not one arrest in all that time and if he had been charged and given probation it's likely he would have had some difficulty getting a legal weapon.  I thought the cops loved to make arrests according to media reports but in this case it proves otherwise.  In this case for whatever reason they were too lenient.  It's easy to say this in hindsight, but the FBI dropping the ball is another thing.
