Go Retro - Cold War Style Prepping

I came across this article on 1950's prepping for nuclear attack.
The guy that built and furnished the shelter with supplies for a 2 week stay had the right idea.  Get comfort foods among everything else.  Canned spam is great and of course so is powdered milk and other basics but there is nothing like some butter fingers or kisses to keep you thinking happy thoughts as the world around you comes unglued.

One thing you might notice is that the military containers kept the items perfectly clean and preserved if not edible.   I bet the hard candy was still tasty and satisfying.  Those military sealed containers are excellent storage devices and can withstand decades of bad environments.  I've found cans that were in water that still kept the contents useable after a decade.

You could do a lot worse than to emulate what the doctor did in this article when it comes to prepping for disaster.  His most important move was actually putting something aside in airtight storage.
